The UNIX Foundation uses charitable contributions on behalf of the UNIX Project, in particular for:

Hiring developers to work part-time or full-time on UNIX Engine, and related projects

Hiring artists to create high quality demo artwork under a permissive license

Purchasing hardware required to develop UNIX and other foundation projects

Producing merchandise for events      (T-shirts, banners, stickers, etc.)
